Finnish Co-operative for Pharmaceutical Injury Indemnities
The Finnish Co-operative for Pharmaceutical Injury Indemnities manages medicines-related injuries with the help of the pharmaceutical insurance taken out on behalf of the Co-operative members. Any Finnish-based pharmaceutical manufacturer, importer, marketer as well as pharmaceutical research company can join the Co-operative.
Established in 1984, the Co-operation now has around 130 members.
The Co-operative affairs are managed and decision taken by its Board and Annual General Meeting.
There is five members in the Board.
The Co-operative has a part-time Managing Director while the other administrative and financial matters are run by external service providers.
The Co-operative's largest expense item is the insurance premium related to the insurance for medicines-related injuries. The members pay the premium in proportion to their shares in the Co-operative.
Pharmaceutical Injury
The Finnish Co-operative for Pharmaceutical Injury Indemnities has taken out a pharmaceutical insurance to protect medicine users. The purpose of the insurance is to indemnify the adverse effects that are unexpected in the therapeutic situation, caused to the users by the pharmaceuticals (defined in the rules of the Co-operation) complying with the Medicines Act and distributed for consumption as well as the injuries caused by medicines in clinical trials in Finland.
